The Role of the Vice President of Recruitment & Member Development: The Vice President of Recruitment & Member Development is responsible for ensuring the longevity of La Raza.  The Recruitment & Member Development (RMD) Team, which consists of the Vice President of RMD and all La Raza class representatives, accomplishes this goal by identifying, securing, and developing the next generation of La Raza members on campus.  The Vice President of RMD must be a person who is extremely extroverted, responsible and personable.
**Freshmen Recruitment & Development - The RMD team should target freshmen dorms for La Raza recruitment throughout the year.  The team should strive to create an environment for the freshmen that is conducive to bonding, while demanding social and academic excellence.  This environment must be consistent with La Raza's agenda and its heavy emphasis on family values.  The RMD Team should also ensure that freshmen have access to all of the academic and social development resources and opportunities that are offered on campus.  Examples of such resources/opportunities at the University of Delaware include the following:
  • The VPRMD should ensure that all La Raza freshmen who qualify for academic enrichment services, such as tutoring, have the opportunity to receive them.
  • Resident Assistants: La Raza's partnership with the Office of Residence Life is a valuable relationship that has paid dividends for undergraduate students across campus.  The VP of RMD should strongly encourage La Raza members to consider joining the Office of Residence Life through the capacity as Resident Assistants & Hall Directors.

**Upperclassmen Recruitment & Development - The VP of RMD is also responsible for the development of upper-class La Raza members.  Test preparation, career services, graduate and professional school rankings, and undergraduate research opportunities are all items that need to be promoted within our organization.  The VP of RMD should aggressively promote these opportunities, making sure that deadlines and other important aspects of opportunities are highly visible.

  • Resident Assistants: La Raza's partnership with the Office of Residence Life is a value relationship that has paid dividends for undergraduate students on campus.  The VP of RMD should strongly encourage La Raza members to consider joining the Office of Residence Life through the capacity as Resident Assistants.
  • Undergraduate Research Opportunities: The VP of RMD should promote undergraduate research opportunities, especially programs such as the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program if they are available on campus.
  • Kaplan Test Preparation: Kaplan and other testing service providers offer a range of standardized test preparation services, some free and some paid.  The VP of RMD is responsible for making sure that these services, especially free standardized practice test days (such as the LSAT & GRE), are promoted within our organization.
  • Graduate/Professional School Rankings: U.S. News and World Report - The La Raza Alumni Association has subscribed to the U.S. News and World Report's annual listings of graduate and professional school rankings within the fields of Business, Law, Medicine, Education, Science, Library Science, Social Science, Health, Public Affairs, & Fine Arts.  This service is paid for by the LRAA for all La Raza members and alumni of the University of Delaware.
    • Username & Password: Email academics@larazacenter.org to secure your username and password for the U.S. News and World Report Rankings.

** Appointment of Class Representatives - As the VP of RMD, it is your responsibility to appoint class representatives, who will serve at your pleasure.
