The Public Relations Officer
The Campus Alliance de La Raza

The Role of The Public Relations Officer:. The Public Relations Officer of La Raza is a central figure that contributes significantly towards maintaining the organization's strength and prestige.  The Public Relations Officer is responsible for many important roles within the organization, which include helping the President maintain close relationships between La Raza and its public allies, and the promotion of La Events and initiatives.
**Spreading La Raza's Image & Mission:  The Public Relations Officer should place a heavy emphasis on making sure La Raza's name and logo are spread throughout campus.  This is accomplished by designing flyers and handbills with the La Raza Logo, website address and other relevant information we seek to get out to the community.  It is important to effectively reach out and advertise events, community meetings, town hall forums, and general unity between La Raza and its allied organizations, such as LASO and the Black Student Union.
Getting Flyer Approval:  In order to post flyers, you must have them approved by the Office of Residence Life and The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement.  Do not violate this policy because our organization could become subject to fines and other penalties.

Flyer Design: White flyers with colored ink are ideal for the Laird Campus, while colored paper and black ink is acceptable for the rest of campus.  Use additional resources in residential areas of our target population.  These extra resources (additional flyers, color flyers, etc) should be dedicated to maintaining our image and prestige on our home turf.  Make sure every flyer has our logo and website address on it.  Name and logo recognition are important !!!

Flyer Distribution:  After the flyers have been approved by The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement and Residence Life, have them printed and distributed in the residence halls.  Post flyers on bulletin boards and other approved places across campus, such as the Sykes Student Union.  Use our resources wisely - and do what you can, especially in the beginning of each year, to make La Raza's logo and name recognized by students, especially those within the African American and Latino communities.

**Networking With Media Outlets and Key Figures in other RSOs:  Networking with heads of Media outlets, such as the campus newspaper, local radio stations, regional newspapers,  TV News Stations, and heads of other organizations will eventually serve as a great benefit for all parties involved.

**Public Allies Profile Book:  As the Public Relations Officer, it will be important for you to preserve your contacts and knowledge with respect to those who pledge their support to us by adding to La Raza's Public Allies Book.  The Public Allies Book is a book you should create that contains the names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, other contact info, photographs and the professional capacities of individuals who have pledged themselves as public allies of La Raza.  We compile this information so that it is passed from one generation of La Raza leaders to the next.  Do not share any of this information with people outside of our organization, but use it to initiate, develop and maintain relationships with key figures throughout the region who support us in our endeavors.

.....
The Public Relation Officer's Constitutional Responsibilities:  The Public Relations Officer is responsible for:
a. Creating a profile book of La Raza's public allies.  The book should include names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and any other contact information the Public Relations Officer sees fit.  Photographs of the individual would be appropriate as well as a listing of their professional capacities, especially those that could possible benefit La Raza.
b. Promoting La Raza events through the creation and distribution of flyers, handbills, emails, and other media outlets.
c. Representing the Campus Alliance in a positive manner, and expressing our will and desire to assist in the endeavors of other respective community and university based organizations.
d. Playing an active role in promoting the Campus Alliance de La Raza to the University and general public.
