The Role of The Public Relations Officer:.
The
Public Relations Officer of La Raza is a central figure that contributes
significantly towards maintaining the organization's strength and prestige.
The Public Relations Officer is responsible for many important roles within
the organization, which include helping the President maintain close relationships
between La Raza and its public allies, and the promotion of La Events and
initiatives.
**Spreading La Raza's Image &
Mission: The Public Relations
Officer should place a heavy emphasis on making sure La Raza's name and
logo are spread throughout campus. This is accomplished by designing
flyers and handbills with the La Raza Logo, website address and
other relevant information we seek to get out to the community. It
is important to effectively reach out and advertise events, community meetings,
town hall forums, and general unity between La Raza and its allied organizations,
such as HOLA and the Black Student Union.
Getting Flyer Approval:
In order to post flyers, you must have them approved by the Office of Residence
Life and The Activities and Programs Office. Do not violate this
policy because our organization could become subject to fines and other
penalties.
Flyer Design: White flyers with colored
ink are ideal for the Laird Campus, while colored paper and black ink is
acceptable for the rest of campus. Our target population lives on
Laird, thus extra resources should be dedicated to maintaining our image
and prestige on our home turf. Make sure every flyer has our logo
and website address on it. Name and logo recognition are important
!!!
Flyer Distribution: After the flyers
have been approved by The Activities and Programs Office and Residence
Life, have them printed by the Trabant University Print Shop and have the
La Raza account charged. Take flyers to the Office of Residence Life
to have them distributed in the residence halls and post other flyers on
bulletin boards and other approved places in Trabant University center,
and if you wish Perkins. Laird Campus, West Campus, the internet
and Trabant are our target areas of advertising. Often, we have found
that it is not worth the time, money and effort to advertise on East Campus,
Central Campus, or in Perkins Student Center. Use our resources wisely
- and do what you can, especially in the beginning of each year, to make
La Raza's logo and name recognized by all within Laird and West Campuses.
**Networking With Media Outlets and Key Figures
in other RSOs: Networking with
heads of Media outlets, such as the campus newspaper The Review,
and heads of other organizations will eventually serve as a great benefit
for all parties involved.
In the beginning of each year, contact
the Center for Black Culture (CBC) to determine the time and date of the
annual "Meet and Greet" for the heads of minority organizations and the
Review. This annual event, beginning in the Fall of 2006, came as
a result of La Raza's protest of the Review and its insensitivity towards
minority organizations and events. Miss Cassandra, the Director of
the CBC, pledged to hold this annual event, giving the heads of The Review
and minority organizations an opportunity to build strong professional
relationships.
The "Meet and Greet" should be attended by you,
the President of La Raza and anyone else he or she sees fit. Take
this opportunity to network hard with the heads of other minority organizations
and the Review. Develop strong relationships with these key figures
so that if and when the time comes, La Raza can quickly and effectively
work with these entities in an effort to advance mutual agendas.
This is another great opportunity to exchange business cards, so if you
or members of your board do not have them, contact one of our Alumni -
Craig de Mariana Aleman at craigaleman@hotmail.com, and he will secure
your new board with business cards, a tool your board will need in order
to network professionally.
**Public Allies Profile Book:
As the Public Relations Officer, it will be important for you to preserve
your contacts and knowledge with respect to those who pledge their support
to us by adding to La Raza's Public Allies Book. The Public Allies
Book is a book that contains the names, addresses, email addresses, phone
numbers, other contact info, photographs and the professional capacities
of individuals who have pledged themselves as public allies of La Raza.
We compile this information so that it is passed from one generation of
La Raza leaders to the next. Do not share any of this information
with people outside of our organization, but use it to initiate, develop
and maintain relationships with key figures throughout the region who support
us in our endeavors.
.....
The Public Relation Officer's Constitutional
Responsibilities: The Public Relations Officer is
responsible for:
a. Creating a profile book of La Raza's public allies. The book
should include names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and any
other contact information the Public Relations Officer sees fit.
Photographs of the individual would be appropriate as well as a listing
of their professional capacities, especially those that could possible
benefit La Raza.
b. Promoting La Raza events through the creation and distribution of
flyers, handbills, emails, and other media outlets.
c. Representing the Campus Alliance in a positive manner, and expressing
our will and desire to assist in the endeavors of other respective community
and university based organizations.
d. Playing an active role in promoting the Campus Alliance de La Raza
to the University and general public.
e. Being La Raza's primary liaison to the Review
f. Developing a close relationship with the Executive Board of the

La Raza Alumni, Past Presidents, or the Board of Directors of La Raza In
Action. Once again, congratulations on your accomplishments and please,
call on the Alumni for support if and when you need it.
