October 9th
Immigration Debate
8pm in 102 Gore Hall.

La Raza has accepted an invitation to participate in an immigration debate with the College Republicans and the College Democrats.  La Raza will send Jissell Martinez, one of its senior immigration policy analysts, whose research has focused on NAFTA, unauthorized immigration and the impacts on New Castle County, Delaware.

Note from moderator: We will be fielding questions from the audience so review your organization's stances on US immigration with regards to socio-economic issues, US policy on immigration, solutions to current problems, as well as any other major issues you think students may think of.

How does your group's position relate to the current Administration's position?  Is building a larger fence between Mexico and the US a productive solution for illegal immigration between Mexico and the US, given that over 6 million of the 10 million illegal immigrants in the US came from Mexico?  Should illegal immigrants who already live in the US be given a chance to earn citizenship, and why?  Are illegal immigrants simply criminals who do not only break the law, but hurt their countrymen by "cutting the line" or are they just people who need to find work and a safe place to work and raise families?  Do illegal immigrants put an excessive strain on government social programs, negatively impacting medical and educational programs throughout the country or do they have a positive affect on the economy?

October 10th
Pa’lante Siempre Pa'lante
Memorial Hall, Room 123 at 5PM

Campus Alliance de La Raza, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc, and Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc present "Pa'lante Siempre Pa'lante"

A short Film & Discussion on one of the most PROLIFIC & CONTROVERSIAL Latino Activist Groups of the Civil Rights Movement

In the midst of the civil rights struggle of the 1960s and 1970s, young Puerto Ricans in Chicago and NYC organized into a group called the Young Lords Organization to achieve economic and social justice. Using archival footage, photographs, and music, “Pa’lante Siempre Pa’late! the Young Lords” documents their activities, philosophy, the eventual demise of the organization and its legacy as an inspirational resource for students and activists today. A discussion about Latino identity and political activism will follow.

October 17th
The Missing Link In "La Union"
CALR 2nd General Meeting, Purnell 114 at 5PM

Join La Raza for our monthly general meeting!
Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of an enthralling discussion about the AFRO-LATINO, and the revelation of the REAL division between the Latino and African-American communities struggling on the road to political empowerment!
These two communities have much more in common than you may assume and are NOT necessarily mutually exclusive. By exploring Afro-Latinos we will begin a discussion about the common history and struggles of African-Americans, Latinos, and Afro-Latinos as well as some poignant differences.
Come experience good dialogue, good music, and good people. ALL are welcome and encouraged to attend.

**Have something to share? Interested in being on our panel/helping out? Send (Nina) a message, ninagb@udel.edu**
