The Assistant Vice President of Philanthropic
Endeavors:.
As
the Assistant Director of Philanthropic Endeavors, you are a member of
the Executive Board and are a part of a team working to accomplish a sub-goal
(giving back to our community) within La Raza. As Assistant Director
of Philanthropic Endeavors, you should attend all Executive Meetings and
work closely with the Director of Philanthropic Endeavors in order to help
him/her with his/her organizational responsibilities. It is important
for you, the Executive Officer and the other assistants to work closely
as a team. In the event that the Director of Philanthropic Endeavors
is unavailable to attend an event or a meeting, the President and Executive
Vice President will have you make decisions on his/her behalf.
For additional info on what you and the Director
of Philanthropic Endeavors will be expected to work on, please read the
following:
The Role of the Director of Philanthropic
Endeavors: The CALR Director
of Philanthropic Endeavors is responsible for continuing La Raza's history
of community service and other contributions to the community. The
Director of Philanthropy is responsible for developing and maintaining
a close relationship with the Director of the GEAR-UP Program at the University
of Delaware and should strive to identify community service events that
La Raza should participate in.
**The GEAR-UP Program:
As our community service and philanthropy director, you will be responsible
for initiating and maintaining a close relationship with Dr. Melva Ware,
the Director of the GEAR-UP Program. GEAR-UP is a program that targets
under-represented middle and high school students and prepares them for
college. La Raza has been active within the organization, serving
as mentors, inspirational speakers and program assistants. GEAR-UP
contributes significantly to our community and we have an obligation to
do what we can in order to support the entity in its endeavors.
Contact Dr. Melva to secure the dates,
times, and locations for the GEAR-UP events that she would like us to participate
in. Find out in what capacity we will be serving the organization
and solicit volunteers throughout our community. Coordinate with
the Vice President of Administration to send emails and facebook messages.
If you'd like, coordinate with our public relations officer to produce
flyers for distribution on Laird Campus. Don't let GEAR-UP and those
kids down - Es La Verdad, En La Union Esta La Fuerza !!
**Community Service Events:
As the Director of Community service, it will be your responsibility to
decide what other community service events La Raza will participate in.
Whether it be the AIDS Walk, MS Walk, A Childrens' Book Drive for Inner
City Kids, or Mentoring, it will be up to you to coordinate events and
solicit participants from the community. Try to focus on issues and
events that benefit the Latino and other minority communities. Additionally,
if possible, try to stay away from toy drives - instead chose books.
Useless toys are nothing compared to tools that stimulate the mind and
plant the seeds for greatness. Again, work with the Vice President
of Administration and the Public Relations Officer to maximize participation
and exposure of our community service initiatives.
**The Cubanito Scholarship:
When La Raza raises sums of at least $250.00 for the Cubanito Scholarship,
it will be your responsibility to solicit applicants for the scholarship,
form a selection committee, and select a winner of the award. For
additional info on the Cubanito Wright Scholarship Fund, please click here.

La Raza Alumni, Past Presidents, or the Board of Directors of La Raza In
Action. Once again, congratulations on your accomplishments and please,
call on the Alumni for support if and when you need it.
