Running Effective Meetings

people engaged. The NCLR has produced a great document that will
guide you in making your meetings as efficient and effective as possible.

Securing Faculty and Graduate Student
Advisors
Your chapter will likely be required
by your host university to secure an academic advisor. You may invite
past Executive Board members to become advisors, or you may want to invite
graduate students at your university to contribute to our cause.
Refer your advisors to the CALR and NCLR websites, and provide them with
the following information:
Faculty, Graduate and Executive Advisors:.
There
are three types of advisors for The Campus Alliance de La Raza - Faculty,
Graduate, & Executive Advisors - and each serves a critical role in
the organization.
**The Faculty Advisors: Acting as a mentor,
the faculty advisor(s) will serve as a liaison between students and the
administration when appropriate. The Graduate and Faculty Advisors
are welcome to any and all meetings of the CALR. The advisors may
provide ideas and suggestions to promote the purposes/goals of The Campus
Alliance de La Raza. Faculty Advisors are expected to sign La Raza's
recognition papers with the University in the beginning of each year.
**The Graduate Advisors: La Raza's first Graduate
Advisors, Lionell Flamer and Kim Wilson, were instrumental in the development
of the organization. As a graduate advisor, you will be welcome to
contribute to the organization in any capacity that you can. You
are strongly encouraged to develop strong relationships with the Executive
Board of La Raza, especially its Executive Advisors, President, and Executive
Vice President. The Graduate and Faculty Advisors are welcome to
any and all meetings of the CALR. The advisors may provide ideas
and suggestions to promote the purposes/goals of The Campus Alliance de
La Raza. La Raza recognizes the importance of Graduate education;
therefore, we strongly encourage our graduate student advisors to assist
in illuminating the obscure paths to advanced degrees for our undergraduate
population. There are however no formal organizational expectations
or requirements for graduate students. You assist in whatever capacity
you see fit.
**Executive Advisors: The CALR Executive Advisors
will consist of Past Executive Board members who wish to still serve an
influential role in La Raza. The Executive Advisors will guide and
assist the Executive Board members in their duties, and the Advisors will
have Executive Board voting rights for their tenure at the University of
Delaware. All Executive Advisors must be approved by the Board of
Directors of the La Raza Alumni Association.
